Intermediate Team Round – Up 2021

After disappointment last year it was back to work on Jan 12th for our first zoom HITT session of the year. On the road to being crowned All Britain Champions the Inter team have taken on 12 online sessions, 66 outdoor sessions and 14 competitive matches.

The time, dedication and passion shown by Ciaran and Jack these past 11 months has been phenomenal and we cannot thank them enough for helping make our football dreams a reality. For them and all the Inters, we know the hard work continues with All Ireland glory firmly in sight.

2021 saw another piece of history being created as we became won the Intermediate All-Britain for the first time in the club’s history, following on from a Junior title previously.

The League

The Inters began their league campaign with a comfortable away win to TMC in Goodmayes on May 1st. A week later it was victory at Downhills Park when the team took on KKG in round 2. A tougher test followed two weeks later when TCG travelled to Downhills Park and beat the Gaels by 6 points before our first meeting of the season with Parnells on May 29th , which went in favour of the Blues. Round 5 took place on a hot day in Mitcham where the Inters took the spoils to give them a third-place finish behind eventual winners Parnells and second place TCG.

The Championship

The Road to Ruislip started with (another) journey to Mitcham to take on Round Towers on July 3rd . This time it was the Towers girls who came out on top with a 2-point victory after a tightly contested game. Next up a week later was a convincing win over TMC before TCG conceded a walk-over to the Gaels in what was to be the last game before the August break.

September saw us handed our second defeat of the year from Parnells, before a Round 5 win against KKG put us third in the table for a semi-final battle with Round Towers on Oct 2nd . Considered the turning point of the Intermediate season by many, the Gaels stormed the pitch and ruled the semi in Greenford setting up our third contest with Parnells in the County Final in McGovern Park on Oct 16th .

Parnells came out on top again on this occasion but with a narrower win than previous games and the threat of Holloway growing. A Road-trip to Birmingham to face John Mitchells Liverpool in the Provincial Semi-Final was next up, and while we made it hard for ourselves at times, a victory was achieved. Roll on Parnells for encounter four of the 2021 season.
