Gripping 2024 Div 1 League Final

TCG                    2-13

Holloway Gaels 3-05

On Sunday May 19th, a warm and sunny day at Ruislip set the stage for the 2024 Division 1 League final between last year's winners, TCG, and Holloway Gaels. Despite it being only the third game of the year for both teams, the players put on an impressive display.

Holloway Gaels, earning their final place after beating both Tara and Parnells in the group stage, got off to a slow start. TCG capitalised on this, racking up seven unanswered points by the 15-minute water break. The break didn't halt TCG's momentum, as they quickly added another goal before Holloway Gaels managed to get on the scoreboard. Despite a goal from corner forward Trea Hourigan, the Gaels still trailed by seven points at halftime, with a score line of TCG 1-09, Holloway Gaels 1-02.

The second half saw a much better performance from the girls in red, who showed grit and determination throughout the 30 minutes. Anne Scullion stood out for her exceptional play-making in the half-back and half-forward domain. After 15 minutes, Holloway Gaels closed the gap to the narrowest of margins, bringing the score to TCG 1-11, Holloway Gaels 3-04.

In the final quarter, Holloway Gaels levelled the game with 10 minutes remaining. However, it was TCG who found that extra gear, scoring a goal and two points to ultimately secure the victory. The final score stood at TCG 2-13, Holloway Gaels 3-05.

Despite the loss, it was a commendable comeback from Holloway Gaels, demonstrating the team's potential and resilience. Well done to all the players and management involved on the day and in the league campaign. There's undoubtedly much more to come from this talented group.
