A Sit Down with London vice-captain and Holloway stalwart Martha Jordan

London Ladies fly into Belfast on Saturday evening for their first-round game in the TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship.  Staying in Belfast on Saturday night before making the 20-minute journey to the pitch at Ballymaguigan on Sunday, the London girls will be fully focused on the game against Derry.

The London team this year consists of 4 Holloway Gaels players – Martha Jordan, Ciara Flanagan, Michaela McCarthy and Mary Adegbamiye. We were very proud to learn that Martha was announced as Vice-Captain for the County team this season and had a sit down with her to get her view on the games ahead.

How long have you been playing with London?

Since 2018, so it’s my 7th year! It’s gone by so fast.

What is your motivation for playing County football for 7 years?

My love of the beautiful game along with my love and pride of London! We’re so unique in London – a wonderful mixture of players from all over. Players from every inch of Ireland but also players born in London to Irish parents or players of no Irish heritage at all who just happened to stumble across the wonderful game of Gaelic Football. The love of the jersey unites us all.

How are you feeling about the upcoming Derry game?

Excited for this game. We beat Derry at home in Ruislip last year. However, Derry have come on leaps and bounds, making it to the Ulster final this year so by no means will it be easy. We’ll be ready for a big challenge!

Who do you think will be your toughest opponents in the Championship?

Sligo have joined our division so that will be a huge test for us. This game will be played in Ruislip, so we are looking forward to all the home support.

What has been a highlight in the County set-up this year so far?

The immense talent we have in the underage set up in London means that there are great younger girls coming through to join the panel. It is brilliant to have that London home-grown talent in the squad.

Describe the 2024 London Team in 3 words.

Young, Hard-working, Passionate.

Huge congratulations to Martha on her appointment as vice-captain and best of luck to all our Gaels along with the London squad and management in their upcoming games.
